Chapter 237

Victoria Sinclair had no intention of signing those papers.

In her heart, she had always considered herself the true heiress of the Montgomery family. Her engagement to Nathaniel Whitmore was solely due to her status within the family.

She refused to let go of that privilege under any circumstances.

Alexander Montgomery's lips thinned. "There's no hidden reason behind this. It's simply time to finalize your adoption termination, as per our original agreement."

Before Victoria could respond, Gregory Thornton hurried in. "Ms. Sinclair, the Whitmore family has arrived."

Victoria's expression darkened. She quickly handed the document to Gregory and turned to Alexander with pleading eyes. "Alexander, can we discuss this after the engagement ceremony?"

Alexander gave a curt nod. "Of course, Victoria. But regarding this matter, only the compensation terms are negotiable. The rest is non-negotiable."

Victoria's fists clenched. Did this mean she would be forced to sign no matter what?

But why?

After years of dedication and countless contributions to the Montgomery family, why were they discarding her now?

Julian Montgomery's voice was ice-cold. "Victoria, you've benefited enough from our family all these years. We owe you nothing."

With their biological sister Evelyn Carter found after years of suffering, the Montgomerys were determined to welcome her home properly.

They wouldn't tolerate anyone mistreating Evelyn.

Therefore, Victoria couldn't remain part of the family.

Especially now that she was about to marry Nathaniel and secure her future as a Whitmore.

Victoria remained silent, signaling Gregory to discreetly hide the document.

Just then, the Whitmores entered the grand hall.

Victoria instantly composed herself. "Mrs. Whitmore, you're here."

As she spoke, she cast a hopeful glance at Nathaniel beside her.

If today's engagement went smoothly, she would soon become a Whitmore.

Nathaniel remained impassive, his gaze sweeping across the three Montgomery brothers before settling on Julian.

He remembered that morning when he'd called Evelyn and heard Julian's voice in the background.

That detail had haunted him ever since.

Penelope Whitmore's eyes widened at the sight of the handsome Montgomery brothers. Alexander might be married, but Sebastian and Julian were still eligible bachelors.

Marrying either would be perfect.

Beatrice Harrington took Victoria's hand with a smile. "Why still call me Mrs. Whitmore? It's time to change that."

Victoria smiled shyly, though her eyes lacked warmth.

Penelope chimed in, "Victoria, we're practically family now. When does the ceremony start? You haven't begun preparing yet. Will you have enough time?"

"I was waiting for all of you to help me. After all, I don't have any close female friends or relatives here in Bern City."

Beatrice waved dismissively. "Don't worry, we'll help. Let's go."

Victoria nodded and turned to Alexander. "Alexander, I'll take them upstairs to prepare."

"Fine."

Alexander nodded, shooting Nathaniel a disapproving glare.

According to Julian, Nathaniel had ulterior motives toward Evelyn.

Soon, only four men remained in the hall.

Three against oneโ€”the mutual hostility was palpable.

Julian broke the silence. "Mr. Whitmore, after today's engagement, you should stay away from other women."

Certainly, Nathaniel mustn't harbor feelings for Evelyn! As a divorced man entering a second marriage, he had no right to her.

Nathaniel recognized the threat in Julian's words but questioned his authority to make such demands.
