Chapter 131
Nathaniel's brows arched slightly at the mention of the prenatal checkup. He had nearly forgotten Evelyn's supposed "pregnancy."
"Understood." His reply was deliberately vague.
"What exactly do you understand?" Eleanor's voice crackled through the phone, sharp with disapproval. "You would've completely overlooked it if I hadn't reminded you, wouldn't you?"
"Bring Evelyn to my hospital tomorrow for her prenatal appointment," Eleanor commanded before abruptly ending the call.
Nathaniel massaged his temples, then turned to Robert. "Schedule an appointment with the OB-GYN department for tomorrow. Make sure Grandmother doesnโt catch wind of it."
Robert nodded briskly and hurried out of the office.
Nathaniel pulled out his phone and typed a message to Evelyn. "Be at the hospital tomorrow morning. Grandmother wants to see you."
Meanwhile, Evelyn finally felt human again after eating a proper meal in her hospital room.
Julian stood beside her bed, handing her a small bag. "Take these medications home. The pregnancy test results arenโt back yet. Iโll notify you as soon as they are."
"Go home and rest. Donโt overexert yourself at work. And donโt forget your folic acid."
"Got it." Evelyn hesitated, then frowned. "Julian, Iโve been meaning to askโwerenโt you supposed to be a veterinarian?"
It struck her as odd that sheโd run into him here, in what was clearly not a veterinary clinic.
He rubbed the bridge of his nose, chuckling awkwardly. "That was just a joke. I wanted to be a vet, but reality had other plans."
Evelyn nodded, conceding the point.
Julian quickly changed the subject. "Iโm on duty today, but Iโve already asked Daniel to pick you up. He just wrapped up filming."
Before she could decline, her phone buzzed. Danielโs voice came through, bright and cheerful. "Evelyn, Iโm pulling into the hospital parking lot. Be there in a sec."
The memory of paparazzi swarming him flashed in her mind. Instinctively, she grabbed a mask from her bag and slipped it on.
Spotting a sleek black MPV idling near the elevator, she hurried over and climbed inside.
She scanned the surroundings warily. "Daniel, are you sure no reporters followed you this time?"
He grinned, unfazed. "Relax. My driver shook them off. Julian told me you had a fever. Work stress? You should quit. I can take care of you."
Evelyn laughed. "Itโs just a cold. By the way, your movie looks amazing. I canโt wait to see it."
His eyes lit up. "The action sequences are mostly mine. Youโll see how badass I am!"
Her smile faltered when she noticed the fresh wound on his forearm. "Daniel, that award-winning co-star of yours is ridiculous. Why couldnโt he do his own stunts instead of making you take the risk?"
She huffed. "And then he gets all the credit, pretending he did everything himself. Itโs not fair to you!"
Julianโs manager choked on his water, coughing violently. Julian himself looked torn between amusement and guilt.
Daniel waved it off. "Itโs fine. They pay me well." He leaned in conspiratorially. "Hey, how about joining a variety show? Thereโs one called A Celebrity Dream in the worksโdesigners team up with celebrities to renovate houses."
Evelyn shook her head. "No thanks. Between my studies and the studio, Iโm swamped."
Daniel sighed dramatically. "Worth a shot."
Julian smirked, already plotting other ways to drag her into the entertainment world.
By the time Evelyn got home, Margaret had already heard about her hospitalization.
Margaret fussed over her, serving a bowl of warm, slightly sweet porridge.
Not long after, Alexander video-called, his face lined with concern. "Evelyn, I just heard you were sick. Are you okay?"
