Chapter 226

"Would you prefer I curse your household with infertility and barrenness instead?" Evelyn countered.

"Victoria, enough of these childish games," she said sternly before turning away, making it clear she had no intention of lingering any longer.

"Evelyn, are you trying to sneak off? This reality must be too bitter for you to swallow, isn't it?"

"The flowers I brought here cost more than your annual salary. Thatโ€™s the difference between us!"

Victoriaโ€™s taunt hung in the air.

Evelyn turned back, her gaze steady and unshaken.

"If you want me to continue with the design, fine. But arenโ€™t you worried I might tamper with it and make you vanish without a trace?"

Victoriaโ€™s face twisted with unease.

With forced bravado, she snapped, "Evelyn, you wouldnโ€™t dare! Just because you played dirty with Penelope doesnโ€™t mean Iโ€™ll fall for the same tricks."

A wry smile curled Evelynโ€™s lips. "Go ahead, test me. If you wonโ€™t make this easy for me, then letโ€™s make it difficult for everyone."

Gritting her teeth, Victoria hissed, "If you sabotage this, the studio will be held accountable! Besides, you didnโ€™t even know it was my order until today. You wouldnโ€™t risk your reputation."

Despite their feud, Evelyn still upheld her professionalism.

A cold smirk played on Evelynโ€™s lips. "Actually, I noticed a few safety concerns with the wedding design when I arrived. I was going to fix them."

"But since itโ€™s your wedding, letโ€™s leave it as it is. Walking blindly into disaster suits you perfectly."

Victoriaโ€™s face drained of color.

Without another word, Evelyn turned and strode away. If Victoria wanted to provoke her, sheโ€™d return the favor tenfold.

Tomorrow was Nathaniel and Victoriaโ€™s engagement ceremony.

It was too late to change the design now. Once Victoria saw the setup, sheโ€™d spend the entire night wondering where the hidden dangers lay.

Exhaling sharply, Evelyn quickened her pace. She pulled out her phone and sent a message to Jonathan:

"Jonathan, something urgent came up at home. Iโ€™m leaving early."

"The engagement venue is nearly done. Youโ€™ll oversee the final touches."

She had no interest in explaining her complicated history with Victoria to Jonathan.

But expecting her to stay and arrange the venue for that couple? Absolutely not.

Moments later, Jonathan called. "Evelyn, why the sudden leave? Is everything okay? Is it about the demolition?"

"Something like that," she replied vaguely.

Jonathanโ€™s tone softened. "If itโ€™s urgent, go handle it. Iโ€™ll take care of things here."

Relief washed over her. At least he didnโ€™t press for details.

Explaining would have been awkward. The contract was already signedโ€”backing out wasnโ€™t an option.

As she stepped outside, a familiar car caught her eye.

Julianโ€™s car?

He was still here?

Inside, Julian was wrapping up a call with Alexander. Spotting Evelyn, he quickly said, "Alexander, weโ€™ll discuss this later. Evelynโ€™s leaving now. Weโ€™ll talk tonight."

Evelyn approached him. Perfect timingโ€”sheโ€™d been dreading the struggle of finding a taxi in this area.

At least Julian hadnโ€™t left yet.

Just then, Victoriaโ€™s voice rang out from behind.

"Evelyn, wait!"
