Chapter 293

Yesterday, Evelyn considered using the program Sebastian shared to vent her frustration. She wanted to teach Victoria and Maxwell a lesson.

Running into a superior hacker was unexpected.

Now that Sebastian was checking in, something must be wrong.

"No. I just noticed someone else using that program and wanted to make sure you were alright. Need backup?"

"I'm fine for now. I can manage." Sebastian's program was more than enough for Evelyn.

Even though a stronger opponent had appeared, her goal was already accomplished.

He hadn't expected that response. "Alright. Call me if you need anything."

Sebastian couldnโ€™t push further without risking exposure.

After hanging up, Evelyn kept her eyes on the screen. The rival hacker had stopped pursuing her instead of continuing the chase.

Either way, her objective was achieved. Engaging further would be excessive. She didnโ€™t want to cause trouble for Sebastian either.

"Evelyn, what are you doing here?" Victoria spotted her in the waiting area the moment she arrived.

Victoriaโ€™s heels clicked sharply with each step. "You donโ€™t belong here," she said, her tone dripping with condescension.

Evelyn lifted her gaze. "Iโ€™m here to collect whatโ€™s owed to me. If not here, where else should I be?"

"Oh, so you came for the money? Funny how someone claimed they didnโ€™t care about the compensation, yet here you are, desperate to get it back." A smug smile curled Victoriaโ€™s lips.

Just as she suspectedโ€”Evelyn cared more than she let on.

Victoria lowered her voice. "Want the money? Itโ€™s simple. Apologize to me sincerely, and Iโ€™ll put in a good word with the Demolition Department. How does that sound?"

The insulting demand didnโ€™t faze Evelyn. "No. Iโ€™m waiting for you to apologize and transfer whatโ€™s rightfully mine."

Victoria burst into laughter. "Evelyn Carter, are you delusional? Keep dreaming. Without my approval, youโ€™ll never see that money. Iโ€™ll make sure of it."

Evelyn smiled coolly. "Then I might as well demand an internal audit of the companyโ€™s system. Letโ€™s see how your brother handles it once he finds out."

A flicker of unease crossed Victoriaโ€™s face before she snapped, "Heโ€™s my brother. Who do you think heโ€™ll side with?"

Evelyn smirked. "Weโ€™ll see."

"You shouldโ€™ve taken my offer when I was being generous. Now you can wait until hell freezes over."

Victoria didnโ€™t have time to waste. She needed to clean up Maxwellโ€™s mess before he ruined everything.

If Alexander discovered she was behind this, sheโ€™d be finished.

Meanwhile, Sebastian called Alexander after speaking with Evelyn.

"Alexander, have you considered why the hacker is targeting you? Thatโ€™s the real issue here."

"Iโ€™ve looked into it. Could be a competitorโ€™s tactic."

"That means you havenโ€™t found the real answer. Itโ€™s not a competitor. Thereโ€™s something else going on." Sebastian knew Evelyn too wellโ€”this wasnโ€™t just about rivalry.

Alexander arched a brow. "Sebastian, why the cryptic talk? Do you know who the hacker is? Are you protecting them?"

Sebastian swallowed. "Hereโ€™s my adviceโ€”check if this is connected to the demolition of Evelynโ€™s old neighborhood. She wouldnโ€™t hack the system unless pushed. Did Maxwell provoke her?"
