Chapter 338
Jonathan admired his reflection in the elevator's polished surface, a smug smile playing on his lips.
Progress with Evelyn was slow - she wasn't the type to open up easily. He needed to focus on his own advancement first.
Evelyn finished organizing the documents and stepped out of the studio.
She reached for her phone to call Christopher, wanting to let him know she'd finished work. But the call went unanswered.
Strange. Was he still occupied?
They'd made plans last night to meet after her shift ended.
Assuming he must be busy, she decided against calling again. Instead, she sent a text: "Christopher, I'm done with work."
Her phone rang within seconds.
Evelyn answered immediately. "Christopher, I-"
"Who is this?" A sharp female voice cut her off. "Why are you calling this number?"
Evelyn blinked at her phone screen. "My apologies, I must have dialed wrong."
Had Christopher given her the wrong number last night? That seemed impossible.
The woman's tone turned accusatory. "Don't play dumb! What's your relationship with Christopher? How do you know him?"
Evelyn's breath caught. This was definitely Christopher's number.
But who was this woman? A girlfriend? If so, Evelyn needed to clarify things to avoid complications.
"It's not what you're thinking," Evelyn explained quickly.
"Oh really?" The woman scoffed. "I've seen your WhatsApp history. You've had his number for months - since his business trip to Bern City."
Evelyn's fingers tightened around her phone.
"You stopped talking for a while, but he kept sending you money. Quite the lucrative arrangement, isn't it?"
Evelyn's jaw clenched. "That's uncalled for. You're making assumptions without hearing me out. How dare you imply I'm some sort of escort?"
The woman laughed coldly. "Then what exactly do you do? Women like you always swarm around Christopher because of his money and looks. I've dealt with your type before."
"Let me make this clear - stop deluding yourself. He'll never stay with someone like you." The line went dead.
Evelyn stood frozen. Was that Christopher's girlfriend? From how she spoke, he sounded like a complete playboy.
This wasn't her business to interfere with his personal life. But the misunderstanding needed clarification.
They'd exchanged numbers but rarely messaged. The money transfers were bonuses after the Fleur International Design Competition - nothing inappropriate.
After a moment's hesitation, Evelyn typed: "Christopher, your girlfriend seems to have misunderstood our relationship. Please explain things to her."
Her message bounced back. She'd been blocked.
