Chapter 313
Hearing Julian's words, Evelyn lowered her gaze and murmured, "Julian, I've already decided to keep the babies."
To her, the twins growing inside her were her family - completely separate from Nathaniel.
Julian gently ruffled Evelyn's hair. "Your brothers and I have stable careers now. We'll take care of you and the twins. You don't need to push yourself so hard."
"I know," Evelyn replied softly.
Her mind was made up. Once she completed her credits, she would graduate and leave this place behind.
Returning home, Evelyn immediately headed to shower and prepare for bed.
In the master suite, Nathaniel finished his work in the study and entered the bedroom. His eyes fell on the matching outfit laid out - and he froze at the sight of the bright red suit.
Was this really what Evelyn had selected for him?
Had he not seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn't have believed it.
Without hesitation, Nathaniel called Evelyn. She answered on the second ring, her voice calm. "Yes?"
Rubbing his temples, Nathaniel demanded, "Is this seriously the outfit you picked? It's blindingly red. Do you have some kind of color deficiency?"
"I think it suits you perfectly. But you're welcome not to wear it."
"Evelyn, I paid ten thousand dollars for your professional opinion, and this is what I get? Really?"
Evelyn struggled to contain her laughter. Composing herself, she stated firmly, "Per our agreement, no changes after payment."
"Is this how you treat all your clients?"
"No. Consider this a life lesson about trusting people too easily."
With that, Evelyn hung up, collapsing into giggles as she rolled across the bed.
Taking Nathaniel's money had been absolutely worth it.
His arrogance was astounding - thinking he could use wealth to humiliate her. It was time he learned not everyone could be bought.
Furious, Nathaniel glared at his phone before roughly tearing off his tie. Evelyn was like some divine punishment sent specifically to torment him.
How dare she charge him ten thousand dollars for this?
He felt like a complete fool.
The next morning, Evelyn returned to work, contemplating how to resign gracefully from Jonathan's studio.
Balancing work and studies was becoming increasingly difficult as her pregnancy progressed.
Entering the studio, she found an extravagant bouquet of roses on her desk.
A jealous coworker remarked, "Evelyn, Mr. Reeves personally placed those there. Even though he told us not to talk about it, everyone's green with envy."
Evelyn's expression tightened. It was time to clarify things with Jonathan.
Knocking on his office door, she was greeted by his warm smile. "Evelyn! What can I do for you?"
"Jonathan, I've decided to resign."
His smile vanished. "Evelyn, if this is about yesterday's lunch incident with the drinks, I sincerely apologize."
"My mother isn't used to fine dining and mistook the labels. It was an honest mistake."
"Jonathan, I understand about the drinks. But my decision isn't about that."
"My coursework has become overwhelming lately."
Jonathan responded quickly. "If it's too much, you don't need to come in. Remember our arrangement? Work when you can - no pressure."
Evelyn hesitated. "I appreciate that, but it wouldn't be fair to the team."
"I've been exhausted recently. I think it's best I take a break. Maybe after graduation I can return."
