Chapter 337

Evelyn blinked in confusion. "My cousin?"

She didn't have any cousins.

Before she could process the situation, Judith leaned forward eagerly. "Don't be shy, Evelyn. Tell me, is your cousin single? Married? With that handsome face and wealth, he must be quite the catch!"

Jonathan frowned, cutting in sharply. "Mother, what nonsense are you spouting? Mr. Whitmore couldn't possibly be single."

Nathaniel was the heir to Bern City's wealthiest family. Even if marriage wasn't in his immediate plans, someone of his status would never be unattached. And even if he were single, he existed in a stratosphere far beyond their reach.

Jonathan's real plan was to win Evelyn's affection, then use her connection to Nathaniel to catapult his own career forward.

Evelyn's mind whirled at Judith's question. Was she seriously considering playing matchmaker for Nathaniel?

Judith waved a dismissive hand. "No harm in asking! My niece studied abroadโ€”beautiful, educated, excellent pedigree. Can't I inquire on her behalf?"

Evelyn's suspicions were confirmedโ€”Judith was indeed attempting to arrange a match.

Those piercing eyes locked onto Evelyn. "I'm just asking for my niece's sake. If he's taken or uninterested, we'll drop it."

Evelyn's lips twitched. She cleared her throat. "I believe he's technically single."

With their divorce proceedings scheduled for next Monday at the courthouse, Nathaniel would soon be officially available.

Judith's face lit up like a Christmas tree. "Really? What's his type? As Jonathan mentioned, my niece has exceptional standardsโ€”ivy league education, impeccable manners. Your cousin runs a corporation, doesn't he? This could be mutually beneficial."

Evelyn found herself drowning in the sudden interrogation.

"Are you hesitant to introduce them? They might hit it off splendidly! Then we'd practically be family."

"Mrs. Reeves, it's not that I object. He's a rather distant relative."

The truth was, with Nathaniel's status, he had socialites and heiresses lining up for his attention. Beatrice's obvious preference for Victoria made the situation even more complicated. Marrying into the Whitmore dynasty wasn't something just anyone could achieve.

"Evelyn darling, you needn't lift a finger. Just share his WhatsApp. Or give it to Jonathanโ€”he'll pass it along to my niece."

Jonathan abruptly intervened. "Mother, we're running late for our appointment. We should go."

Only then did Judith reluctantly leave the office. Outside, she hissed at her son, "Why did you stop me?"

"Mother, if my cousin starts seeing Evelyn's 'cousin,' that creates complications. What if the Whitmores find such connections beneath them?"

Judith scoffed. "Evelyn's no aristocrat. The woman you're meeting today comes from real moneyโ€”your cousin's Oxford classmate. You'd better impress her."

"If Evelyn doesn't pan out, you've got this alternative. No harm pursuing both options simultaneously. With your looks, you should aim for wealth and beauty."
