Chapter 155

Evelyn maintained her composure despite Victoriaโ€™s biting remarks.

โ€œCanโ€™t I be here to check on Grandma Eleanor? Her surgery hasnโ€™t been finalized yet.โ€

She didnโ€™t mention that Julian was already searching for a specialist.

Still, she wanted to know if Nathaniel was aware of why Victoriaโ€™s brother couldnโ€™t perform the operation.

Victoriaโ€™s smirk deepened. โ€œIs that so? Well, you donโ€™t need to worry anymore. My brother has agreed to operate on Grandma Eleanor.โ€

โ€œThe surgery will happen by the end of this month, and sheโ€™ll recover in no time.โ€

Evelyn froze for a second, then instinctively turned to Nathaniel. โ€œIs that true?โ€

There wouldnโ€™t be any last-minute complications, would there?

Nathaniel gave a curt nod. โ€œSheโ€™s right. The surgery is scheduled for the end of the month.โ€

Evelyn lowered her gaze, murmuring, โ€œThatโ€™s good. I hope everything goes smoothly for Grandma Eleanor.โ€

In a way, this was for the best.

Meanwhile, Victoria was practically glowing. She had thought sheโ€™d lost her chance entirely, but fate had handed her an opportunity instead.

This was perfect. With this, Evelyn would no longer be a threat to her.

She smirked, tilting her head at Nathaniel. โ€œCome on, Nate. We should go tell Grandma Eleanor the good news.โ€

Evelyn couldnโ€™t stay a second longer. She turned on her heel and strode toward the stairs.

Victoria watched her leave with a triumphant smile.

โ€œNate, letโ€™s go.โ€

Nathanielโ€™s expression remained impassive as he said coolly, โ€œDonโ€™t tell Grandma yet. If she finds out, she might refuse the surgery.โ€

Victoriaโ€™s face darkened. โ€œIt canโ€™t be that bad, can it? My brother is one of the best surgeons in the country.โ€

She had been terrified when Nathaniel was involved in that car accident.

But now, she was the one saving Eleanorโ€™s lifeโ€”begging Alexander and Sebastian to convince her brother to operate.

So why wasnโ€™t Eleanor grateful?

Eleanor doted on Evelyn because she had saved Nathanielโ€™s life. Shouldnโ€™t she treat Victoria better now that Victoria was saving hers?

A warning glint flashed in Nathanielโ€™s eyes. โ€œVictoria, donโ€™t push your luck.โ€

Instantly, Victoria shrank back, guilt flickering across her face. โ€œNate, relax. I wonโ€™t do anything reckless.โ€

โ€œBut I only managed to get Alexander and Sebastian to agree because I told them you were going to marry me. You heard what Sebastian said earlier.โ€

โ€œI agreed to a fake engagement. Thatโ€™s all this isโ€”a transaction.โ€

โ€œI know.โ€ Victoria lowered her voice. โ€œBut even if itโ€™s fake, we still need a ceremony to convince my brothers. Otherwise, theyโ€™ll start asking questions.โ€

โ€œWe have until the end of the month. If anything happens to Grandma Eleanor before then, we canโ€™t afford to wait.โ€

As she gazed at Nathaniel, excitement thrummed through her. Once the engagement was official, it would be real. She wouldnโ€™t let it stay fake.

By then, her brothers would stand by her, and Nathaniel would have no choice but to marry her.

But for now, she had to stay calm. She needed to make sure the engagement ceremony went off without a hitch.

โ€œOf course, the engagement will proceed as planned,โ€ Beatrice interjected, beaming as she linked arms with Victoria. โ€œEleanorโ€™s doctor called earlier and mentioned your brother visited. This is wonderful news!โ€

โ€œAs for your engagement, donโ€™t worry. Nothing will go wrong. You can even invite your brothers to witness it.โ€

Victoria smiled sweetly, but her eyes held something far more complicated.

Evelyn stormed out of the hospital, her strides long and hurried.

โ€œEvelyn!โ€

Julian was waiting for her at the entrance. He took one look at her expression and knew something was wrong.
