Chapter 240
"What? Victoria, aren't you worried Evelyn might sabotage the engagement?"
Victoria's lips curled into a frosty smile. "She wouldn't dare. This venue carries her studio's reputation. Any mishap would ruin not just her career, but her entire team."
"I see. Actually, Victoria... Why don't we have Evelyn personally handle your train? Let that scheming wretch witness the difference between you two."
Penelope was practically salivating at the thought of humiliating Evelyn.
Ever since that incident, Penelope's social standing had taken a hit. Though the Whitmores claimed the leaked footage was doctored, society's elite knew the truth.
All because of Evelyn Carter!
Victoria's smirk widened. "Fine. Handle it yourself later - just don't disrupt the ceremony."
"Don't worry, darling. I'll make sure Evelyn regrets ever crossing us. You just enjoy the show."
As they descended the grand staircase, Victoria froze.
The main hall stood eerily empty.
Where were Nathaniel and her brothers?
Beatrice offered a placating smile. "They're probably discussing business outside, dear. Let's proceed to the garden pavilion."
Victoria forced a nod, though her eyelid kept twitching inexplicably.
When they reached the floral archway with no sign of Nathaniel or her brothers, panic clawed at Victoria's throat.
Noticing her distress, Beatrice volunteered, "I'll call Nathaniel to locate them."
Once alone, Victoria turned to Jonathan. "Has Ms. Carter arrived?"
Jonathan approached hesitantly. "Apologies, Ms. Sinclair. She's en route."
"En route?" Victoria's voice turned glacial. "The lead designer missing her own project? Is this your studio's standard?"
"I'll contact her immediately." Jonathan dialed with trembling fingers before paling. "Her phone's... switched off."
Penelope scoffed. "How convenient. The coward probably chickened out."
Victoria's mood darkened further. Spinning around, she found her brothers still absent.
She speed-dialed Alexander. "The ceremony starts in twenty minutes. Where are you?"
"On our way." Alexander exchanged grim looks with Sebastian and Julian. "No avoiding this now."
Julian rubbed his temples. "Maybe just you go? I'm... not feeling well."
What if Evelyn never forgave him?
"Don't be ridiculous. We face this together." Alexander marched forward like a condemned man.
Yet when they arrived, Evelyn was nowhere in sight.
Alexander scanned the crowd anxiously. Had she really abandoned them?
Victoria's saccharine voice interrupted. "Looking for someone, brother dear?"
Julian quickly deflected. "Shouldn't the groom be here by now?"
