Chapter 336
Evelyn stepped out of the car, flashing Julian a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, I won't say a word to Alexander."
The moment they entered the house, the rich aroma of Margaret's cooking enveloped them.
In the living room, Evelyn froze at the sight of a strikingly handsome man lounging on the couch. "Christopher?"
Christopher rose gracefully, his lips curving into a warm smile as he ruffled Evelyn's hair. "Evelyn, you're home early. Rough day at university?"
Evelyn hesitated. "No, Eleanor had surgery today. I stayed at the hospital until it was over."
Christopher's gaze flicked to Julian, disapproval flashing in his eyes. Having known Evelyn once worked as a caregiver for the Whitmores, he'd always opposed Julian assisting with their medical matters.
But since it was Evelyn's personal request, he held his tongue. Her kindness was impossible to refuse.
"Hungry?" Christopher asked, his voice smooth as silk. "Let's eat."
Margaret emerged from the kitchen, wiping her hands on her apron. "Perfect timing! Since everyone's here, let's wash up and dig in."
She turned to Evelyn. "Since Christopher's visiting and it's the weekend, why don't you show him around Bern City?"
Evelyn nodded. "Of course. Christopher, are you here for business or pleasure?"
Her brothers usually only visited during vacations or work trips, their schedules packed.
"Business," Christopher replied casually, "but I thought I'd take a break too."
Truthfully, his main purpose was seeing Evelyn.
After her recent discovery, Christopher had been swamped with work, making it impossible to visit Bern City sooner.
Now that he'd finally cleared his schedule, he was determined to spend quality time with Evelyn.
Though Evelyn got along well with all six brothers, she'd always felt a distance between herself and Christopher and Andrew.
Andrew, being a lawyer, had helped Evelyn when she faced false accusations.
But with Christopher, there was an unspoken barrier she couldn't breach.
Despite knowing little about him, Evelyn couldn't deny his breathtaking looks. If Christopher ever entered show business, he'd undoubtedly become an overnight sensation.
The next morning, Evelyn prepared to visit the studio.
She'd texted Jonathan the night before, requesting time off.
With Christopher visiting and needing to check on Eleanor at the hospital, Evelyn had no spare time this weekend.
Arriving at the studio, Evelyn powered up her computer and efficiently wrapped up pending tasks, ensuring a smooth transition.
Given her limited availability moving forward, she decided against taking new projects.
"Evelyn! I thought you were off this weekend?" Jonathan's eyes lit up at the sight of her.
Evelyn shrugged. "Just dropping off some documents."
Before Jonathan could respond, the guest room door opened, revealing Judith. "Jonathan, are you done? Oh, hello Evelyn! What brings you here?"
Evelyn's smile faltered slightly. "Just finishing some work. Don't let me interrupt your plans."
Judith's elegant outfit suggested they were heading out.
Jonathan quickly clarified, "Nothing important. My mother rarely visits, so I'm taking her sightseeing this weekend."
Judith linked arms with Evelyn, her gaze calculating. "Evelyn, I've been meaning to askโis your cousin currently single?"
Evelyn blinked.
Jonathan groaned. "Mother, please."
Judith waved him off. "What? It's a simple question."
Evelyn suppressed a sigh. This was going to be a long weekend.
