Chapter 362
Jonathan rushed toward Evelyn before she could react. "Evelyn, please accept this. A peace offering. I hope you'll forgive me."
Her brows knitted together. "Jonathan, didn't I make myself perfectly clear? I'm not interested in you."
It baffled her why he refused to take no for an answer.
"Evelyn, I've already discussed this with your brothers. They understand where I'm coming from. I'll prove to them that I'm the man who can make you happy," he insisted, thrusting the bouquet of roses toward her.
Evelyn shot Julian a disbelieving look. Had her brothers actually taken Jonathan's side?
Irritated, Christopher stepped forward and yanked the flowers from Jonathan's grasp. "Bullshit. When exactly did we agree with anything you said? Care to explain?"
Jonathan swallowed hard before turning to Julian. "Didn't I clarify everything earlier?"
Uncomfortable, Julian crossed his arms. "Jonathan, I don't interfere in my sister's love life. She's free to choose whoever she wants. But she's made it crystal clearโshe's not into you."
"That's fine. I can wait. I'll try harder." Jonathan's voice trembled with desperation.
Julian suddenly gripped Jonathan's shoulder. "She said no. What you're doing is harassment."
Christopher tossed the roses to the ground and crushed them under his shoe. "Jonathan, let me make this clearโdon't even think about pursuing someone out of your league."
"That goes for Evelyn. Drop whatever scheme you're plotting and get lost. She won't fall for it." As someone who had played the field, Christopher recognized manipulation when he saw it.
He could tell from the start that Jonathan had ulterior motives. There was no way he'd let Evelyn end up with someone like him.
Initially, Christopher had worried Evelyn might be swayed by Jonathan's shallow tactics. How could he stop it if that happened?
Thankfully, Evelyn saw right through Jonathan from the beginning.
Defeated, Jonathan finally slunk away.
Evelyn exhaled in relief. "What exactly did he tell you guys?"
"Nothing important, just a load of nonsense. Thank God you're sharp enough to see through that guy's act," Christopher dismissed with a wave.
"It's... complicated." Evelyn didn't know where to begin.
"Let's get in the car first. We have plenty of time to talk," Julian suggested.
Once inside, Christopher spoke up. "Evelyn, listen to meโnever fall for cheap tricks like that. Got it?"
She frowned. "Cheap tricks?"
"Exactly. Guys like Jonathan are all talkโempty promises, grand gestures, acting like they'll move mountains for you."
"Buying flowers? Bringing breakfast every morning? Basic manipulation. They'll shower you with attention, make you feel special. Sounds romantic, right? But do you think any of it's real?"
Evelyn nodded. "That does sound like Jonathan."
Though, he'd never gone that far for her before.
Christopher continued, "It's all a game. Don't give in to persistent men like that. They have nothing substantial to offer, so they resort to love-bombing."
"It costs them nothing but time. Be careful with men like that. Don't be fooled."
Evelyn fell silent for a moment before smirking. "Christopher, are you speaking from experience?"
