Chapter 468

Victoria's eyes darkened with malice as she hissed, "I've clearly underestimated her. She's slipped right through my fingers!"

"Everyone believed she faked her pregnancy to manipulate Mrs. Whitmore, but who would've thought Evelyn was actually carrying a child? She played us all!"

It was obvious nowโ€”Evelyn had planned to secretly deliver Nathaniel's heir in Nord City, using the baby to cement her position as Mrs. Whitmore.

That had to be her scheme.

And now, with the looming possibility that Evelyn might be the true heiress of the Montgomery family, nothing stood in her way.

Would Victoria be left humiliated in the end?

Absolutely not.

A murderous glint flashed in Victoria's eyes as she turned to her accomplice. "We need to eliminate Evelynโ€”and the child in her wombโ€”before it's too late."

This was Evelyn's own doing.

After Victoria stormed off, Julian took a deep breath before dialing Alexander.

"Alex, we have a problem."

He relayed everything Victoria had uncovered over the phone.

Alexander's voice turned grave. "She's onto us. That decoy was a deliberate distraction."

"Exactly. She's been stalling us, pretending not to know Evelyn's location while sending us on a wild goose chase."

Julian's tone sharpened. "We can't let Victoria stay in play any longer."

"Agreed. On another note, all of Evelyn's legal documents are ready. It's time we paid her a visitโ€”expose Victoria's lies and make sure she faces the consequences."

"Couldn't have said it better myself."

After hanging up, Julian smirked. Mercy wasn't an option for anyone who dared harm Evelyn.

Meanwhile, Evelyn remained on campus, buried in textbooks for her upcoming exams.

Still, she couldn't resist stealing glances at her phone, typing out another message to Nathaniel. "Mr. Whitmore, when will you be free to finalize our divorce?"

Yet, like all the others, it vanished into the voidโ€”no reply.

Across town, Nathaniel sat in his office, staring blankly at Evelyn's unanswered texts.

Abruptly, he looked up at Robert. "How do I stop this divorce from happening?"

Robert hesitated. "Maybe... try sweet-talking her?"

Sweet-talking?

Nathaniel frowned. He'd never had to coax a woman before.

Evelyn spent the entire day in the library, drowning in notes.

By evening, she finally packed up, ready to head home.

As she neared the university gates, a crowd had gathered outside.

"Damn, that's a luxury car. And that man? Unreal."

"Who's the lucky girl? If he's single, I'm making my move!"

Evelyn arched a brow. A public proposal?

Danielle, ever the gossip, dragged her forward. "Come on, I need to see this!"

Reluctant but curious, Evelyn let herself be pulled to the frontโ€”and froze.

There, leaning against a sleek sports car, stood Nathaniel.

Dressed casually but no less striking, he exuded effortless elegance. His sharp features commanded attention, his presence magnetic.

Then, as if sensing her, he turnedโ€”and their eyes locked.

Her heart stuttered.
