Chapter 388
Alexander finally sent the message: "I'll make sure Victoria leaves Nord City and never comes back."
As long as Victoria stayed away, Evelyn wouldnโt have to face her when she returned.
Alexander had hoped to end things amicably, but after Victoria used Margaret as leverage, he wasnโt about to let her walk away unscathed.
The next morning, Evelyn woke up in her apartment, her head still foggy.
After a quick shower, she stepped into the kitchen for breakfast.
Christopher sat beside her, grinning. "So, Evelyn, school today? Or do you have other plans? Just say the word!"
"I know. Donโt worry, I wonโt say anything. Iโm heading out now. Stay put. Call me if you need anything," Christopher said before leaving.
Evelyn nodded. The moment the door closed, she grabbed her bag and rushed out.
Inside the taxi, she quickly texted Jonathan: "Be at the police station in thirty minutes."
Jonathan called immediately, but Evelyn ignored it. By the time she arrived, he was already there, panting. "Evelyn, letโs talk this out like adults."
"No promises." She turned and strode inside, knowing heโd follow.
A smirk curled her lips. Hook, line, and sinker.
Fifteen minutes later, everything was settled. As they stepped out of the station, Jonathan stared at her in disbelief. "Youโve changed, Evelyn. I donโt even recognize you anymore."
Her gaze was ice. "People do."
He cleared his throat. "Look, your ex-husband was trash. Whatโs next for you? Why not give me a shot? Youโre a designer, I own a studio. Together, we couldโ"
Evelyn scoffed. "Not happening. Run back to Mommy, little boy."
His jaw clenched. "Youโre a divorced woman! Who do you think you are? Am I not good enough?"
"Exactly. Youโre not." She had no patience for his delusions. If not for her plan to pressure Nathaniel, sheโd have sued his mother for assault already.
Her phone buzzed.
It was Victoria Hawthorne, calling from the hospital. "Mrs. Whitmore, Mrs. Eleanor has woken up."
"Really?" Evelynโs heart leapt.
"Yes, she keeps murmuring your name. Come see her when you can."
"Iโll be right there." She hung up and hailed another cab, her pulse racing.
Eleanor was awake.
Julian had told her that once a patient regained consciousness, recovery was just a matter of time.
Without another thought, Evelyn rushed to the ICU. Spotting Victoria, she asked, "Whereโs Grandma Eleanor?"
"Sheโs being prepped for tests. Sheโs finally awake." Victoria smiled.
Evelyn exhaled, relief washing over her. "I knew sheโd pull through."
Victoria glanced behind her. "Ah, Mr. Whitmore. Youโre here."
Evelyn froze.
