Chapter 348
"Why hesitate? He doesn't care that you're divorced."
"Exactly! He's such a romantic. Just accept him already! Don't just stand there spacing outโyou donโt want to let a good man slip away!"
Jonathan wore a triumphant smirk. He had plenty of experience chasing women. His success rate? Nearly flawless. Making Evelyn fall for him wouldnโt be difficult.
Now he understood why she had been avoiding his advances. Her divorce had shattered her confidence.
That was why she couldnโt accept his feelings!
This realization only fueled his arrogance. If they got married, Evelynโs brothers would invest in his studio. Once he succeeded, he could divorce her and marry someone else.
Meanwhile, Evelyn was torn. Rejecting him publicly would humiliate him, but letting the misunderstanding fester wasnโt an option.
She took a deep breath. "Jonathan, youโre a great guy, but I donโt think weโre compatibleโ"
Before she could finish, security guards arrived, dispersing the crowd.
One of them aimed a fire extinguisher at the candles, turning the romantic setup into a soggy mess in seconds.
Jonathanโs face darkened. "What the hell are you doing? Canโt you see whatโs happening here? Learn to read the room!"
His campus popularity had inflated his ego. Having his grand gesture ruined was a direct blow to his pride, and he lashed out.
A guard replied calmly, "Weโre just enforcing campus rules. Open flames are prohibited."
Jonathan scoffed. "What rules? Is this because I didnโt bribe you? Iโll make it up to you later. Just back off."
Ignoring him, the guards tossed the ruined candles into a trash bin.
He gritted his teeth. "Are you deaf? Do you want to lose your jobs? I can make one call to Mr. Winslow and have you fired."
The guard didnโt flinch. "Weโre following his orders."
Jonathan froze. "No way."
"No way?" A cold voice cut through the tension. "It is my order."
Theodore Winslow stepped forward. Most of the students had already scattered.
Evelyn lifted her gaze toward Theodoreโand then froze. Standing beside him were several men in suits, but one stood out effortlessly.
Nathaniel Whitmore.
His piercing glare was fixed on the scene with visible irritation. "Mr. Winslow, it seems safety regulations arenโt taken seriously here."
Theodore quickly defended, "This kind of reckless behavior is strictly forbidden on campus. FelixโJonathan knows that. Heโs pushing his luck."
He turned to Jonathan, his tone sharp. "Youโre a top graduate. How could you set such a poor example?"
Theodore was making him the scapegoatโbetter than risking Nathanielโs wrath falling on the school.
Jonathan couldnโt meet Nathanielโs eyes. "I can explain. I just wanted to confess to Evelyn. I donโt usually break rules. You understand, right, Mr. Whitmore? Sheโs your cousin, isnโt she?"
A slow, dangerous smile curved Nathanielโs lips.
"My cousin?" His voice was lethally soft. "Who told you that?"
