Chapter 408

Christopher Montgomery had always been known as somewhat of a playboy.

Now it all made senseโ€”why he suddenly organized a music showcase at the university and even endorsed such a youthful design concept.

But Christopher had never gone to such lengths for a woman before. He had never used his professional projects to impress anyone. Yet, Evelyn Carter seemed to be the exception.

Anthony Kensington couldn't shake the feeling that he had been too harsh on Evelyn. What if she became Christopherโ€™s wife one day?

Later that afternoon, Evelyn was stunned to find her design draft approved without a single revision.

Disbelieving, she double-checked with Elizabeth Hartwell multiple times. Elizabethโ€™s response remained unchanged: "Evelyn, you should trust your talent."

"After all, you were the first-place winner in the Fleur International Design Competition. The university has high expectations for you."

"I understand. Iโ€™ll do my best," Evelyn replied, her cheeks warming at the praise.

When she arrived home in a daze, Christopher was already there, watching her with a tentative smile. "Evelyn, how did the review go? Approved?"

Still slightly dazed, Evelyn nodded eagerly. "First try, no revisions. I was prepared to make changes, so this was a surprise."

Christopher gently ruffled her hair, his smile widening. "Happy?"

"Of course! Now I can start decorating the hall right away. Thereโ€™s still enough time."

After a quick dinner, Evelyn retreated to her room to finalize the hallโ€™s decor.

She realized sheโ€™d have to work tirelessly tomorrowโ€”otherwise, sheโ€™d fall behind schedule.

Watching her dedication, Christopher couldnโ€™t help but smile. As long as she was happy, nothing else mattered.

The next morning, Evelyn arrived on campus early to begin decorating.

By noon, she was so absorbed in her work that dizziness hit her. Only when her stomach growled in protest did she finally pause to order food.

After eating, she felt slightly better.

"Tsk, tsk. This setup is underwhelming. How did Anthony even approve such a mediocre design?" Victoria Sinclair sneered.

Penelope Whitmore smirked. "Isnโ€™t it obvious? Maybe Evelyn persuaded him in some special way."

Victoriaโ€™s grin widened. "Penelope, we shouldnโ€™t make accusations without proof."

Penelope scoffed. "What more proof do we need? Everyone knows how Evelyn earned her place in the Whitmore family."

Evelyn set down her tools sharply.

"I was wondering what that awful smell was. Turns out, itโ€™s just the two of you. I thought a sewer pipe had burst."

Penelopeโ€™s face twisted. "Who are you calling foul? Did we lie? You did use dirty tricks to get your design approved, didnโ€™t you?"

Evelynโ€™s expression turned icy. "Spreading rumors has consequences, Penelope. Remember that."

"Please. Everyone already knows the truth. Iโ€™ll make sure the entire campus hears about your little hotel rendezvous with Anthony last night. My friend saw it firsthandโ€”donโ€™t even try denying it."

Evelyn nodded calmly and pulled out her phone, dialing the police.

"Hello? Iโ€™d like to report defamation. Iโ€™ve been falsely accused of misconduct, and I have two witnesses here who can attest to the slander."
