Chapter 260
Did long legs really give someone such an unfair advantage?
As Evelyn settled into the helicopter, her feet dangled just above the floor, barely touching. It seemed impossible that she could have climbed in without assistance.
Once inside, she glanced down at her captors sprawled on the ground below. "What's going to happen to them?" she asked.
"Someone will deal with them," Nathaniel replied smoothly.
He took the seat beside her in the cramped cabin, their arms pressed close together. She could feel the heat radiating from him, a stark contrast to the biting mountain air.
Evelyn's stomach growled loudlyโshe was ravenous.
The crinkling of a wrapper caught her attention. She turned to see Nathaniel holding out a chocolate bar. Her mouth watered instantly.
He shook it teasingly. "Hungry?"
She nodded. "You wouldnโt let your wife starve, would you? Imagine the scandal if word got out."
Nathaniel unwrapped the chocolate and handed it to her, his expression unreadable but his actions swift.
Evelyn took it without hesitation. As a pregnant woman, skipping meals wasnโt an option.
Besides, as the father of her child, sharing his snack was the least he could do.
After eating, the tension in her shoulders finally eased. They were safe now.
Moments later, she found herself leaning into Nathanielโs warmth, instinctively burrowing under his coat.
He glanced down at her, a faint smirk playing on his lips. Without a word, he shrugged off the coat and draped it over her.
She was only this docile when she was asleep.
Nathaniel studied her face, noting the soft roundness of her cheeks. He pinched one lightly, amused.
Had she been eating well without him? In such a short time, sheโd clearly gained weight.
Just then, Robert messaged Nathaniel: Sir, Julian has been blowing up my phone, demanding our location.
Nathaniel skimmed the message and replied: Head straight to the hospital.
Though Evelyn seemed fine, he wasnโt taking any chances. Only a doctor could confirm she was truly unharmed.
Thirty minutes later, the helicopter landed on the hospital rooftop.
Julian had been waiting anxiously. Since discovering Evelynโs disappearance, he and his brothers had turned the city upside down searching for her.
But as outsiders in Bern City, their efforts had been frustratingly slow.
Somehow, Nathaniel had gotten wind of the situation and mobilized his own team, speeding up the search dramatically.
As the helicopter touched down, Nathaniel carefully lifted the sleeping Evelyn into his arms.
Julian rushed forward, reaching for her, but Nathaniel strode past him, heading for the stairs without breaking stride.
Julianโs temper flared. Why was Nathaniel still carrying her? He needed to put her downโnow!
If not for Nathanielโs crucial role in finding Evelyn, Julian wouldโve confronted him on the spot.
Fuming, he forced himself to stay composed. He quickly updated the family group chat: Evelynโs at the hospital. No visible injuries so far.
Then he hurried after Nathaniel. "Nathaniel, why donโt you let someone else carry her? You must be exhausted."
Nathaniel didnโt slow down. "Sheโs not heavy."
Julian blinked.
That wasnโt the point!
What gave Nathaniel the right to hold her like this?
