Chapter 382

Nathaniel glared at the hospital director standing beside him. "What are the risks if she terminates the pregnancy?"

The director blinked in confusion. Why was Nathaniel suddenly discussing abortion when Evelyn had only just been confirmed pregnant?

But he didnโ€™t dare question the order. "It varies, Mr. Whitmore. Early termination is safer, but multiple procedures can lead to complications."

Nathanielโ€™s jaw tightened. "Schedule the surgery."

The director hesitated. "Sir, with all due respect, Mrs. Whitmoreโ€™s condition is delicate. An abortion now couldโ€ฆ permanently damage her fertility. And given sheโ€™s carrying twinsโ€”"

"Twins?" Nathanielโ€™s expression turned thunderous.

Robert, his assistant, winced. This was the last thing his boss needed to hearโ€”his wife pregnant with another manโ€™s child.

Realizing his blunder, the director quickly backtracked. "Shall I arrange the procedure immediately?"

Nathanielโ€™s scowl deepened.

Robert shot the director a warning look. Stop talking.

Suddenly, a nurse burst in, breathless. "Director! The patientโ€”she jumped out the window!"

Nathaniel was out the door before she finished speaking. He kicked open the hospital room door, only to find the window wide open and the bed empty.

"Find her!" he roared. "If sheโ€™s hurt, Iโ€™ll burn this place to the ground!"

He stormed to the window, expecting to see Evelynโ€™s broken body below. But there was nothing.

"You said she jumped. Where is she?" he demanded.

The nurse stammered. "Iโ€”I only heard someone say she did!"

The head nurse rushed in to clarify. "She didnโ€™t jump, sir. She climbed down the drainpipe from the balcony and escaped through the first floor."

The director exhaled in relief. "Thank God." If Evelyn had died, his career would be over.

Nathaniel kicked the bedframe with a snarl. "Evelyn Carter, youโ€™ve got nerve! Track her downโ€”now!"

Meanwhile, Evelyn sprinted through the streets, her hospital gown flapping behind her. She couldnโ€™t let Nathanielโ€™s men catch her.

Her phone buzzed. Julianโ€™s name flashed on the screen. She answered instantly, gasping. "Julian! I need help!"

Julian had been about to ask where to meet her. Instead, he slammed the accelerator. "Where are you? Hide somewhere safeโ€”Iโ€™m coming!"

Evelyn ducked into a nearby park, but her gown made her stand out. A jogger slowed. "Miss, do you need assistance?"

She shook her head. "No, my brotherโ€™s picking me up."

Only Julian could save her now.

Her phone rang again. Nathanielโ€™s name this time.

She rejected the call and silenced her phone, scanning the park with wide eyes. Every shadow felt like a threat.

Thenโ€”footsteps. A manโ€™s voice called out.
