Chapter 392

Julian's words were directed squarely at Nathaniel. If Nathaniel dared to lay a hand on Evelyn or her unborn child, Julian wouldn't hesitate to step in.

Nathaniel understood immediately. Just as he suspected, both Julian and Evelyn were using Eleanor as leverage against him.

Nathaniel staggered backward before turning to leave the ICU, his retreating figure radiating quiet despair.

Evelyn watched him go. She had feared a violent confrontation between the two men. Thankfully, nothing had happened.

"Don't worry, Evelyn. He won't dare touch you," Julian reassured her, his voice firm.

Evelyn turned to face him. "Julian, what exactly did you and Nathaniel discuss?"

"Nothing important. I just warned him to stay away from you," Julian replied with a casual shrug.

"I don't want you getting into trouble because of me," Evelyn said, her brows furrowing with concern.

Julian felt a pang at her thoughtfulness. "Evelyn, this is nothing. Your brothers aren't useless, you know. Besides, I'm overseeing Mrs. Whitmore Senior's post-operative care. Do you really think Nathaniel would risk harming me?"

"But you weren't the surgeon who operated on Grandma Eleanor," Evelyn pointed out.

Julian quickly countered, "I'm handling her follow-up treatment since the lead surgeon had to return to Nord City."

"I see." Evelyn relaxed slightly. She knew Nathaniel wouldn't do anything too extremeโ€”not when Eleanor's wellbeing was at stake.

Just then, her phone buzzed. It was Christopher calling.

Evelyn suddenly remembered she had sneaked out of the house. In her rush to the hospital after hearing about Eleanor's recovery, she'd completely forgotten she'd sent Christopher to fetch her some clothes.

Handing the phone to Julian, she whispered urgently, "Julian, I snuck out. Don't let Christopher find out."

"He'll figure it out eventually. Besides, you'll be returning to Nord City with us soon," Julian said with an amused smile.

"Let's cross that bridge when we get to it." Evelyn knew her brothers loved her and didn't want to cause unnecessary trouble. She just wanted to leave quietly and quickly.

Once her paperwork was settled, Eleanor would likely have recovered enough for travel.

Unable to resist Evelyn's pleading eyes, Julian answered the call. "It's me. Evelyn's getting her dressing changed at the hospital. We'll be back soon. Prepare some of her favorite food and plenty of snacks."

Christopher didn't suspect a thing. "Got it. Leave it to me."

After hanging up, Evelyn took her phone back. "Thank you, Julian."

"You have ten minutes to visit Mrs. Whitmore Senior before we leave," Julian said, knowing Evelyn would want to check on Eleanor and Margaret.

Evelyn headed upstairs to the private ward. Guards stood watch outside, and the corridor was eerily silent.

She hesitated at the door, unsure whether to wait until the others left before entering.

But Victoria noticed her and hurried over. "Mrs. Whitmore, why are you standing out here? Mrs. Whitmore Senior has been asking for you."

Summoning her courage, Evelyn stepped inside. She approached the bed where Eleanor lay connected to a ventilator. Though pale, Eleanor's eyes brightened when she saw Evelyn.

Evelyn took Eleanor's hand gently. "Grandma Eleanor, I'm so glad you're okay. I'll visit you as often as I can."

Eleanor nodded weakly and placed a trembling hand on Evelyn's belly, her eyes shimmering with unspoken emotion.
