Chapter 437

A single glance was all Evelyn needed to cross Nathaniel off her mental list. That wasn't him.

She could recognize his silhouette anywhere, and this man's attire didn't match Nathaniel's usual style.

If anything, he looked more like Julian.

No wonder he hadnโ€™t answered her call yesterday. Had he been on a date?

She checked her WhatsApp, where Julian had finally replied. The message had come in lateโ€”sheโ€™d already been asleep.

"Evelyn, I figured you'd be resting, so I didnโ€™t call back. About Christopher and Andrewโ€”leave it to me. Just focus on your health and donโ€™t overwork yourself with college matters. You need to take it easy."

Clearly, Julian was worried about her.

The fainting incident had been a wake-up call. After the music showcase ended, sheโ€™d retreat home and do nothing but attend classes.

Her babies were her top priority now.

Who knew if sheโ€™d be lucky enough to avoid complications if she collapsed again?

She typed a quick reply: "Understood."

Downstairs, Margaret had prepared breakfast. Evelyn ate with quiet gratitude before heading to campus, her spirits lifted.

Today was the final rehearsal, meaning she had to inspect the venue decorations one last time.

The moment Evelyn stepped into the hall, Elizabeth rushed over. "Evelyn! Thank goodness youโ€™re okay. We were terrified when you fainted yesterday."

"Just low blood sugar. Sorry for worrying everyone."

"As long as youโ€™re fine. Mr. Winslow asked about you multiple times today. Youโ€™re the backbone of this event, after all."

Evelyn smiled faintly. "Just doing my part."

The showcase would bolster her academic record, so she was determined to see it through.

Elizabeth excused herself, and Evelyn wandered toward the guest seating area. When her gaze landed on the spot where sheโ€™d collapsed, she rememberedโ€”it had been Nathaniel who caught her.

Without him, things couldโ€™ve been much worse.

"Oh, look whoโ€™s backโ€”the campus celebrity, freshly discharged." A mocking voice sliced through her thoughts.

Evelyn turned to face two familiar figures.

One had helped design the venue and had eagerly stepped forward earlier, assuming Theodore had summoned her. The other had been seen with Victoria beforeโ€”likely an acquaintance.

Their hostility was palpable, but Evelyn remained composed. "If you want fame by fainting, feel free to try it here."

One girl scoffed. "Weโ€™re not as scheming as you, collapsing right in front of Mr. Whitmore just so heโ€™d rush you to the hospital. Everyone sees through your act. Stop deluding yourself."

The other chimed in, "Exactly. Mr. Whitmore is Bern Cityโ€™s most eligible bachelor. His fiancรฉe is Ms. Sinclairโ€”theyโ€™re a perfect match. Gold-diggers from nowhere should quit dreaming."

Evelyn let out a soft laugh, her eyes cool. "Your jealousy is showing. And itโ€™s not a good look."

Their expressions twisted.

She continued, "One of you clung to Victoria, while the other tried flirting with Nathaniel, didnโ€™t you? Who are you to judge me?"

Without another word, she walked away. Some battles werenโ€™t worth her time.
