Chapter 430
Evelyn's disbelief was evident, and Nathaniel grew increasingly irritated. Was this really how she saw him?
He lifted his gaze, his tone sharp. "What did you expect? They're not my children. Why would I want them?"
His words struck her like a physical blow. Her hands trembled as she lowered them to her stomach, tears spilling over.
Were her babies really gone?
Seeing her tears, Nathaniel instantly regretted his cruel joke. "Evelyn, don'tโ"
But before he could finish, she launched herself at him, fueled by fury and grief. "Nathaniel, I swearโ!"
Alarmed by her sudden movement, he shoved his laptop aside and caught her before she could hurt herself.
In the next second, her hands locked around his throat.
She flipped him onto the sofa, straddling him, her grip tightening. If he had taken her babies from her, she would make him pay.
Nathaniel winced at the pressure but didnโt push her away. Gritting his teeth, he managed to choke out, "Let go."
"Never! You're a murderer!" she hissed.
Just then, the door swung open.
Diana Whitmore and Isabelle Laurent froze in the doorway, stunned by the scene before them.
Evelyn was pinning Nathaniel down on the sofa, their bodies pressed close in what looked like an intimate embrace.
Dianaโs brows furrowed. "What on earth is going on here?"
At the sound of her voice, Evelyn loosened her grip but remained tense. Nathaniel, however, pulled her closer against him.
She shoved him away, disgusted by his touch.
Nathaniel remained composed. "We should stop. We have an audience."
Evelyn stiffened.
Diana crossed her arms, her expression stern. "This is highly inappropriate behavior for a hospital, especially for a pregnant woman carrying twins."
Evelynโs breath caught. "Waitโmy babies are still here?"
"Of course they are," Diana said. "Mr. Whitmore was very clear when he brought you in. If anything happened to those babies, this hospital would face serious consequences."
"So rest assured, both you and your twins are perfectly safe."
Evelyn turned to Nathaniel, stunned.
She had expected him to demand an abortion, but instead, he had ensured her babies' safety.
She had misjudged him entirely.
Nathaniel leaned back, watching her with calm amusement. "Do you understand now?"
Evelyn swallowed hard. "Then why did you say those things?"
"What things? You misunderstood."
She clenched her fists, resisting the urge to hit him.
Flushed with embarrassment, she pulled away. Now that she knew her babies were safe, her anger faded.
Diana cleared her throat. "Pregnancy hormones can be intense, but you must exercise restraint, especially in public."
Evelynโs face burned. "Itโs not what you think!"
Nathaniel smirked. "I didnโt exactly resist."
Diana gave him a pointed look. "As the father, you should educate yourself on these matters. Allowing reckless behavior could harm the babies."
Nathaniel tilted his head. "Where can I find more information?"
