Chapter 270

Evelyn Carter had not only successfully seduced Nathaniel Whitmore, but now she was also entangled with Julian Montgomery!

This explained why Julian had been so reluctant to reveal his reasons for agreeing to perform surgery for Eleanor earlier.

Could it be because of Evelyn?

All the puzzling mysteries that had eluded Victoria Sinclair suddenly became crystal clear.

Evelyn had orchestrated everything! This shameless woman dared to seduce Julian for her own benefit, showing no remorse whatsoever!

Victoria's fingers twitched with the urge to burst through the door and expose Evelyn's true colors. Yet she restrained herself at the last moment.

If she confronted them now, Evelyn would surely conjure up countless excuses.

Victoria needed a comprehensive plan - one decisive revelation that would settle everything permanently.

Inside the hospital room, Evelyn suddenly glanced toward the window.

Julian followed her gaze. "Something wrong?"

"Nothing." She shook her head. "Just my imagination playing tricks."

She'd felt someone watching, but perhaps it was just a passing nurse.

Julian handed her a sliced apple. "Evelyn, Nathaniel went out of his way to help you this time. His attitude seems... unusual."

Evelyn's expression turned awkward. "Julian, the only reason Nathaniel helped is because of Eleanor's influence."

"She's always been kind to me. If anything happened to me under his watch, she'd hold him accountable."

"Is that truly the only reason?" Julian pressed.

Evelyn nodded firmly. "What else could it be?"

The idea that Nathaniel still cared for her seemed impossible. He'd been more than eager to finalize their divorce and erase her from his life completely.

Seeing Evelyn's apparent indifference toward Nathaniel, Julian felt relieved. Her emotional detachment might protect her from further heartbreak.

"I want to go home tonight," Evelyn announced suddenly. "I can't stand another minute in this hospital."

"Of course," Julian agreed immediately. "Resting at home would be better. Call me immediately if you feel unwell."

Evelyn nodded obediently. Within the hour, discharge papers were signed, and she was finally free from the sterile confines.

Julian escorted her to the parking lot, one protective hand hovering near her elbow.

From a shadowed corner, Victoria watched them leave, her gaze turning glacial. "Evelyn," she murmured, "you're full of secrets, aren't you?"

Her assistant nodded. "Ms. Sinclair, Evelyn probably met Julian through Harrison."

"I know," Victoria snapped. "That woman only knows how to climb using men. This time, I'll make sure she falls hard."

A cruel plan was already forming in her mind.

Inside the taxi, Evelyn suddenly sneezed. Was she catching a cold? Shrugging it off, she gave the driver her address.

When Evelyn arrived home, Margaret Dawson burst into tears. "Evelyn! This is all my fault! I should have been more vigilant - I never imagined Walter and Beverly would conspire to hurt you like this!"

"How could they plot to send you into the wilderness? No one could survive those conditions!"

Evelyn hugged her adoptive aunt. "I'm fine, see? With my brothers protecting me, nothing bad will happen."

"This time, Walter and Beverly must face consequences," Margaret declared fiercely. "They won't trouble you again."

Evelyn blinked in surprise at Margaret's uncharacteristic assertiveness. The older woman had always advocated forgiveness before.

"Evelyn, I made your favorite chicken soup," Margaret said, wiping her eyes. "Eat well and regain your strength. These past days must have been terrifying."

Evelyn obediently sipped the soup, her free hand drifting unconsciously to her still-flat stomach.

Just as she finished, Alexander and Olivia Montgomery arrived. "Evelyn," Alexander said gravely, "we need to talk."
