Chapter 364

Christopher scoffed. "Hey, you're just slightly better than the average guy out there. Barely meeting the minimum standards of what makes a decent man."

"But men like that are rare, especially when you factor in high social status. It's practically impossible to find them."

Julian nodded solemnly and turned to Evelyn. "Chris is a playboyโ€”well, no. I mean, a love expert. You should listen to his advice. Don't let men toy with your heart."

Evelyn used to dream of a fairytale romance. Back when everyone doubted whether Nathaniel would survive his injuries, she had been willing to marry him, even if it meant becoming a widow!

Looking back now, she wanted to slap some sense into her past self. Love had blinded her completely.

Christopher continued his lecture. "Never sacrifice your future for so-called 'love.' And never give up your career for a man."

"Most importantly, never pity a man. The moment you do, thatโ€™s when your suffering begins."

Evelyn thought of Nathaniel and nodded. "True."

If she hadnโ€™t taken pity on him when he was injured, she wouldnโ€™t have impulsively married him.

"Above all, Evelyn, no matter how much you like a man, donโ€™t pour all your energy into him. You have your own life. Men are naturally rebellious creatures."

"The more you focus on yourself and the more independent you are, the more theyโ€™ll chase after you."

"I agree."

A person should never lose themselves for a man.

For three years as "Mrs. Whitmore," Nathaniel had been her entire world. And yet, in the end, she was cast aside like nothing.

She had learned that lesson the hard way.

Julian noticed her somber expression and remembered her marriage to Nathaniel.

Hadnโ€™t she been the perfect example of love-blind devotion? She had dropped out of school for three years just to be a housewife.

She had checked every box on the list of what not to do.

Julian quickly lightened the mood. "Evelyn, donโ€™t take Chris too seriously. Just filter out whatever doesnโ€™t apply to you."

Christopher shot back, "What do you mean, donโ€™t take me seriously? Iโ€™m giving her life-saving advice. There are way too many scheming men out there these days."

"We met Jonathan today. What if she runs into Alexander or Donovan next?"

Evelyn gave an awkward smile. Despite being a playboy himself, Christopher had a point. If she had known him earlier, she never would have married Nathaniel.

Nathaniel wouldโ€™ve survived just fine without her, anyway.

Christopher rambled on about relationshipsโ€”how to win a manโ€™s heart, how to choose the right one, how to keep him loyal.

There was so much to absorb. She had no idea love could be this complicated!

He took a sip of water. "Evelyn, schools teach women to be independent and hardworking, but not how to navigate relationships. And yet, itโ€™s one of the most important subjects in life."

"Choosing the wrong man is like buying the wrong house. The moment you realize your mistake, itโ€™s already too late."

Evelyn gave him a thumbs-up. "Chris, you should write a book."

They returned home and had dinner together. Later, she even jotted down notes from Christopherโ€™s relationship lessonsโ€”a reminder to never let love blind her again.

The next morning, her phoneโ€™s ringing jolted her awake.

She answered groggily. "Hello? Who is this?"

"Evelyn, Jonathanโ€™s in trouble!"
