Chapter 407
Julian Montgomery frowned at Andrew's words. "You should discuss this with Evelyn first before making any decisions. What if she doesn't agree with your plan?"
"I can handle this on my own. Evelyn doesnโt need to be involved."
Andrewโs voice was firm. "After everything sheโs enduredโbeing mistreated and abandoned by the Whitmore familyโI wonโt stand by and do nothing. I refuse to let her walk away with nothing."
If Evelyn left the marriage empty-handed, then what was the point of Andrew being here?
"What I mean is, our family is more than capable of supporting her financially. Sheโll be returning to Nord City soon. Thereโs no need to complicate things."
Julian sighed. "Besides, Evelyn has made it clear she wants nothing more to do with the Whitmores."
"This isnโt about complicating things. Itโs about ensuring she gets what she deserves."
Andrewโs tone sharpened. "Otherwise, Nathaniel will think he can treat her however he pleases. Let me handle this. Iโll talk to Evelyn myself."
As one of Nord Cityโs top lawyers, Andrew believed that if Evelyn divorced without securing what was rightfully hers, then his reputation meant nothing.
Before, she had no one to rely on. Now, she had family.
Why should she suffer in silence?
Meanwhile, Evelyn sat through her afternoon lectures, an uneasy feeling settling in her chest. She couldnโt pinpoint why.
Later, she emailed the finalized design drafts to the university officials.
Given Anthony Kensingtonโs perfectionist standards and Victoria Sinclairโs interference, the task had been far from simple.
Evelyn wasnโt confident her designs would be approved. She had a sinking feeling theyโd be sent back for revisions.
When Anthony received the drafts, he immediately forwarded them to Christopher Montgomery with a message:
"Mr. Montgomery, what do you think of these designs?"
Christopher barely glanced at them before replying sharply, "Why are you showing me this? Are you out of your mind? Who designed these?"
Anthony hesitated. "Mr. Montgomery, didnโt you specifically request to review the universityโs submissions?"
He added, "I agree with your initial reaction. The designs seem amateurish. Theyโll only slow us down. Thatโs why I suggested replacing Evelyn in the first place."
Waitโ
Christopher suddenly straightened, his fingers flying over his phone as he called Anthony. "Hold on. Are you saying these are from the university?"
"Yes, theyโre from Evelyn Carter," Anthony confirmed.
Christopherโs breath hitched.
Evelyn had designed these?
He cleared his throat, backtracking instantly. "Actually, on second thought, I might have been too hasty. These designs are impressiveโfull of energy and raw talent!"
Anthony blinked, baffled by the sudden shift. "Iโฆ I thought they were underdeveloped?"
Hadnโt Christopher just criticized them? Why the change of heart?
"Underdeveloped? Hardly." Christopher scoffed. "If you canโt appreciate originality, maybe you should keep quiet. This has character!"
He continued, "Evelynโs a student. Her style might be unconventional, but that doesnโt make it tasteless. It fits the universityโs vibe perfectly. I say we proceed as-is."
Anthony hesitated. "Soโฆ no revisions?"
"None. Itโs perfect."
Christopher wouldnโt risk exhausting Evelyn with endless edits.
She had already spent countless hours practicing piano and refining these drafts.
Besides, this music showcase was for her. Even if sheโd scribbled the designs on a napkin, heโd have approved them.
Anthony had no choice but to comply, though suspicion gnawed at him.
Was Christopherโฆ interested in Evelyn?
It was the only explanation.
