Chapter 457

Nathaniel looked up, his brow furrowing slightly. "What are you doing here?"

"Nat, I tried calling you last night, but you didnโ€™t answer. I told you I had something important to discuss."

Beatrice stepped into the office, her agitation evident. "Why didnโ€™t you return my call?"

Nathaniel remained composed. "I had urgent matters to handle."

She sank onto the sofa, her designer clutch gripped tightly in her hands. "Nat, I heard you finalized the divorce and transferred all your shares to Evelyn. Is that true?"

Nathaniel realized Beatrice must have gotten this information from Victoria. The thought of others knowing about his divorce unsettled himโ€”it was a blow to his pride.

Keeping his expression neutral, he confirmed, "Yes, thatโ€™s correct."

Yet, Nathaniel couldnโ€™t ignore the fact that he hadnโ€™t thoroughly reviewed the divorce settlement agreement before signing it.

"Nat, how could you be so careless? Donโ€™t you understand what giving Evelyn all your shares means?"

Beatriceโ€™s voice sharpened. "Youโ€™re essentially surrendering your position as CEO of Whitmore Enterprises, handing over control of the entire company! Have you no regard for our familyโ€™s legacy?"

She had intended to confront him the night before, but when he never came home, her frustration only grew.

She couldnโ€™t fathom how Evelyn had manipulated Nathaniel into making such a reckless decision.

The more Beatrice thought about it, the angrier she became. "Nat, did Evelyn deceive you into signing that agreement?"

Nathaniel rubbed his temples. "Mother, donโ€™t worry about it. Iโ€™ll handle this myself."

"How can I not worry?" Beatrice snapped. "No matter what tricks Evelyn plays, she wonโ€™t get away with this."

With that, she pulled a document from her bag and slapped it onto the desk.

"From the beginning, I was wary of Evelyn. Given her background, who knows what she was plotting? I never thought Iโ€™d actually need this."

Nathaniel glanced down. "What is this?"

"A prenuptial agreement." Beatriceโ€™s lips thinned. "Given Evelynโ€™s humble origins, it was only natural to protect our assets. This states that in case of divorce, she leaves with nothingโ€”not a single penny."

Nathanielโ€™s frown deepened as he took the document and scanned its contents. At the bottom, he spotted Evelynโ€™s signature.

His mood darkened instantly. "Mother, who told you to do this?"

Nathaniel had been completely unaware of this arrangement. He had always assumed Evelyn married him for the Whitmore fortune.

Now, faced with the prenuptial agreement, he couldnโ€™t understand why she had agreed to marry him at all if she stood to gain nothing.

Clutching the document, Nathaniel felt as if heโ€™d been slapped. The realization hit him hardโ€”he had misjudged Evelyn entirely.

She hadnโ€™t married him for money.

His emotions churned as he exhaled sharply.

Seeing his reaction, Beatrice grew uneasy. "Nat, donโ€™t worry. With this, even if Evelyn tries to dispute the divorce, she wonโ€™t win."

She scoffed. "Honestly, who would willingly give up their claim to assets? Itโ€™s suspicious from the start."

Nathaniel stood in silence, gripping the prenuptial agreement tightly. "Mother, why didnโ€™t you tell me about this sooner?"

Beatrice hesitated. "Iโ€”I thought I mentioned it before."

She crossed her arms. "I was prepared to confront Evelyn, but when I heard you already knew, I didnโ€™t push further."

She sighed. "In the end, it seems it wouldnโ€™t have made a difference either way."
