Chapter 205

Julian stiffened the moment the nurse spoke.

His secret was about to be uncovered.

Evelyn studied him with suspicion. "Sister?"

Did he have another sister she didnโ€™t know about?

He rushed to clarify, "Evelyn, you're my only sister. I swear!"

Never in his life had he acknowledged Victoria as family.

His nervous reaction amused Evelyn. "I didnโ€™t even accuse you of anything, Julian. Why so defensive?"

It was like watching a guilty boyfriend caught red-handed.

He cleared his throat awkwardly. "Just wanted to make things clear."

Turning to the nurse, he said, "Got it. I'll leave shortly."

The nurse hesitated, recognizing the visitorโ€™s identity.

Today, Julian was supposed to meet Nathaniel to discuss the surgical plan for Eleanor.

But Evelynโ€™s sudden trip to the emergency room changed everything. Her health came first.

"You should go," Jonathan reassured him. "Iโ€™ll stay with her."

Julian nodded. "Rest well, Evelyn. Weโ€™ll go home together later."

With that, he took the elevator back to his office.

When he pushed the door open, Victoria and Nathaniel were waiting. His expression remained unreadable.

Victoria brightened instantly. "Julian, I called you so many times. Were you busy?"

"Yes. There was an emergency."

Her eyes gleamed. "Was the patient a woman?"

If she wasnโ€™t mistaken, Evelyn had been rushed to the ER.

Nathanielโ€™s gaze sharpened, locking onto Julian, waiting for confirmation.

If it was Evelyn, he needed to know how she was doing.

Julianโ€™s eyes flickered between them before settling on Nathaniel.

Memories of Nathaniel bringing Evelyn to the hospital resurfaced, and he answered coldly, "No."

He would never admit the truthโ€”not if it meant keeping Nathaniel away from Evelyn forever.

Victoria suppressed a sigh. A missed opportunity. If Evelyn had been the patient, she couldโ€™ve twisted the situation to ruin her reputation further.

Nathanielโ€™s gaze darkened before he redirected the conversation. "Letโ€™s focus on the matter at hand."

He had come personally to discuss Eleanorโ€™s surgery.

Julian took his seat. "You didnโ€™t need to come. The surgical plan requires discussion with the medical team. Itโ€™s not something we can finalize nowโ€”especially since youโ€™re not a doctor, Mr. Whitmore."

Victoria paled. "Julian, Nathaniel is just concerned about his grandmother."

Nathaniel shot her a chilling look, and she shrank back, sweat forming on her brow.

She had lied to him, claiming the surgical plan was ready just to bring him here.

She hadnโ€™t expected Julian to expose her so bluntly.

Julian noticed her guilt immediately.

Deliberately, he asked, "Victoria, did you mislead Mr. Whitmore?"

Her mind raced for an excuse. "I thought it would help if you two discussed it directly. For Mrs. Whitmoreโ€™s sake."

Her back was soaked with sweat.

If Julian revealed the truth, would Nathaniel call off their engagement?
