Chapter 476
The moment Evelyn stepped out of the office, she immediately called Danielle.
"Ms. Sinclair, there's a problem at the university. My anonymous report was exposed, and now everyone knows about Evelyn and Mr. Whitmore's marriage. Why wasn't I informed about this earlier?"
Victoria's grip on her phone tightened. Nathaniel had personally gone to the campus to publicly declare his relationship with Evelyn.
Her voice dripped with frustration. "How could you be so careless? Getting caught this quickly is unacceptable."
Worse yet, Nathaniel's public declaration had only strengthened Evelyn's position.
Danielle was proving to be even more incompetent than Penelope.
"Ms. Sinclair, what am I supposed to do now? The university will definitely take action against me. You promised you'd protect me, didn't you?"
Victoria scoffed. "Relax, it's not that serious. Just sit tight and wait for further instructions."
With that, she hung up and turned to Gregory. "When does Alexander arrive in Bern City?"
"His flight lands tomorrow."
"Arrange a meeting. I'll handle the pickup myself."
Gregory hesitated. "Should we warn Danielle first? We donโt want her slipping up."
Victoria smirked. "No need. Sheโs too self-absorbed to suspect anything. Remember how easily she volunteered to impersonate Evelyn when I mentioned needing a childhood friend?"
As long as Danielle played her part, Victoriaโs position remained secure.
Meanwhile, Evelyn walked along a quiet path on campus, her thoughts in turmoil.
She had suspected Penelope or Victoria might be involved, but Danielleโs betrayal had blindsided her.
The realization stung.
Just then, two unfamiliar men appeared beside her. They didnโt look like students.
Spotting her alone, they smirked and approached.
"Hey, you look upset," one said.
"Yeah, why donโt you come with us? Weโll cheer you up," the other added.
Evelynโs instincts screamed danger. She tried to leave, but they blocked her path.
"Let me go!" she demanded, raising her voice. "This is a university. If you donโt back off, security will be here in seconds!"
One of them laughed. "Feisty, arenโt you?" He reached out to grab her.
Suddenly, a deep voice cut through the air. "Touch her, and youโll regret it."
Evelyn turned toward the voice. A tall figure emerged from the shadows, his sharp gaze unmistakable.
Nathaniel.
Her heart leaped. "Sweetheart!"
The men froze at the term of endearment. Causing trouble on campus was one thing, but tangling with someoneโs husband?
They exchanged a glance and bolted.
Evelyn rushed into Nathanielโs arms, trembling. "I was so scared."
Regret flooded her. If something had happened, her unborn babies could have been in danger.
Nathaniel held her close, his hand gently stroking her back. "Iโve got you."
Tears pricked her eyes. "Why did you follow me?"
