Chapter 2

Sophiaโ€™s eyes glazed over with pleasure.

She couldnโ€™t control herself and let out a moan.

She nearly stained the doctorโ€™s coat.

I gave an awkward laugh.

โ€œDoctor, how serious is Sophiaโ€™s condition?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know yet. Weโ€™ll need to see the scan results. Go get the scan done now. Weโ€™ll review it when the results come in.โ€

After receiving the examination order, I took Sophia to pay for and complete the scan.

It was done in the afternoon.

The results wouldnโ€™t be available until tomorrow.

We would have to come back tomorrow to check.

โ€œJohn, thank you so much for your help.โ€

Sophia shyly expressed her gratitude.

I quickly responded, โ€œItโ€™s nothing. Weโ€™re colleagues. We should help each other when thereโ€™s difficulty.โ€

โ€œWhat about tomorrowโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAlright, alright. Iโ€™ll see this through. Iโ€™ll make another trip tomorrow.โ€

Sophia was immediately overjoyed.

โ€œThank you!โ€

We got in the car.

I saw that it was getting late.

I decided to drive Sophia home first.

Sophia lived in an upscale residential complex.

The complex was very large.

I helped her park the car.

Sophia then invited me in for a glass of water.

It was my first time visiting.

I wanted to see the large house she lived in.

โ€œSure, Iโ€™ll come in and take a look.โ€

Sophia lived in a duplex.

She told me to make myself at home as soon as we entered.

A childโ€™s cries came from inside the house.

โ€œPlease wait a moment. The baby is crying.โ€

Sophia hurried inside.

This gave me time to look around.

Besides the luxurious decor, I noticed Sophia kept a pet rabbit.

It was a large, white rabbit.

It looked quite cute in its cage.

Feeling bored, I walked over to the cage to play with the rabbit.

Just then, Sophia came out.

She was holding the baby and speaking to me.

โ€œMy mother actually left the baby home alone and went out. Seriously, no one was here to care for the crying child.โ€

Sophia had an older brother.

The old lady probably saw the baby as her ex-son-in-lawโ€™s child and didnโ€™t want to look after it.

But leaving the baby alone at home was still irresponsible.

You never know with people these days.

I felt that Sophia had a difficult life on her own.

โ€œWhat an adorable baby!โ€

I looked at the child in Sophiaโ€™s arms and quickly changed the subject.

I reached out with my finger to play with the baby.

It was a girl.

She had a milky, sweet scent and smiled when she saw me.

I wasnโ€™t married and had no children of my own.

But I loved children.

Delighted, I wiggled my finger for the baby to grab.

The baby grabbed my finger and tried to put it in her mouth.

โ€œItโ€™s dirty!โ€ Sophia exclaimed urgently.

I immediately remembered I had just been playing with the rabbit.

Worried about germs, I awkwardly pulled my hand back.

โ€œIโ€™ll just play with your big white rabbit instead.โ€

I squatted down again.

Sophia soothed the baby and chatted with me.

โ€œJohn, I didnโ€™t know you liked children so much. Youโ€™re such a good man.โ€

I said I was a very loving person and especially adored little girls.

Sophia laughed.

โ€œThen you should find a wife and have one soon!โ€

โ€œHey, itโ€™s not that easy. It depends on fate. Marriage isnโ€™t simple.โ€

โ€œWhat kind of woman are you looking for? Iโ€™ll see if I know anyone.โ€ Sophia offered to play matchmaker.

I glanced at her.

โ€œSomeone just like you would be perfect.โ€

โ€œMe? John, donโ€™t joke. Would you really want a divorced woman?โ€

I worried Sophia might feel insecure about her divorce.

I quickly joked to comfort her.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong with being divorced? You have a car and a house. Your conditions are great. This kind of comfortable life isnโ€™t for just anyone.โ€

My words made Sophia giggle.

โ€œBut I also have a child. If I married you, could you accept that?โ€

โ€œWhy wouldnโ€™t I? Having a child is even better. It means I wouldnโ€™t have to work hard. Itโ€™s called reaching the goal in one step.โ€

I spoke without thinking.

My words made Sophia blush.

โ€œThen Iโ€™ll marry you.โ€
