Chapter 2
The sharp heel of a high-heeled shoe slammed into my abdomen.
Excruciating pain exploded through my body.
I curled up on the ground, cold sweat instantly soaking my back.
"You bitch! How dare you spend my man's money!"
"I'll make sure you don't get out of here alive!"
The female manager's scream pierced the darkness.
She looked down at me, her eyes filled with venom.
The two burly men immediately stepped forward.
Fists and leather shoes rained down like hail.
I bit my lip, the taste of blood spreading in my mouth.
My bones groaned under the pressure.
Every inch of my skin screamed in agony.
"Stop pretending to be so virtuous! You're just a gold digger!"
She grabbed my hair, forcing me to look up.
"I really am his sister... Let me talk to Caleb Beniere..."
The high heel stomped hard on my shoulder.
The pain was unbearable.
"Shut up! If you don't come up with five hundred thousand today, you won't leave here alive!"
She twisted her foot, a malicious smile on her face.
"Caleb has ways to clean up my mess."
"Killing you is as easy as stepping on an ant."
The pain blurred my vision.
I struggled to feel around on the ground, my fingers finally touching the cold surface of my phone.
"I'll... pay..."
She released her foot with satisfaction.
She crouched down and patted my face.
"Wouldn't it have been better if you were this obedient earlier?"
"Now I want a million."
I coughed violently, swallowing the metallic taste in my throat.
With trembling hands, I dialed a number.
As soon as the call connected, I spoke hoarsely:
"Madeline, bring two million to Caleb Beniere's restaurant."
"Now."
Madeline's voice immediately tensed up: "Beatrice? What's going on..."
"Hurry."
I ended the call and looked up into Chloe Valentine's gleaming eyes.
A greedy smile spread across her face.
"You're finally being sensible."
